Colour: Simple colours used of Red, White and Black. Red connotes sexy, love, anger. Black and white contrast to make everything stand out. The three colours go well together but oppose each other making the cover eye catching and clear to understand
Design: Both the words and images have the same colour scheme of red, white, and black. Everything fits together well and flows throughout the cover, looks stylish and classy. predominantly the same simple font which makes it easy to read, Name of artist is bold to highlight who is on it however largest is that she rocks which tells you what the mag is about.
Images: Close up of Cheryl Cole dominates the page, very well known, tells you who the magazine is about, attracts her fans instantly as she is easily recognizable. However her pose is different to the image she projects, which is innocence however in the pose she looks like she has attitude underlined by the main cover line 'Rocks', she looks bad, which makes readers think why is she looking like this and arouses interest.
Pose, Style Hair, Make-Up: She is licking her ring which makes her sexy an seductive. Her bright red lips stand out and also makes her look seductive. Her skin look pale and makes her and her features stand out. Her hair is let down and wet connoting that she doesn't care and has attitude and somewhat wild.
How are words used on the cover?: Has name of the album '3 words' on cover followed by 'cheryl cole rocks' makes readers recognize the play on words and tells them the magazine is about the album. The word rock is large and bold in red which stands out and tells the audience the genre of this magazine is rock. It also says "the UK's biggest music magazine" which tells the reader they are reading the magazine that has it all and its the one to read. The words stand out at a distance and makes it easy to read on the shelf in a shop. Makes the reader expect more of cheryl cole in the magazine.
Language: Uses her album name 3 words as a pun by saying cheryl cole rocks. This attracts her fans as they will recognize the album name and it will make them think. Change her image as the 3 words are 'Cheryl Cole rocks'
Overall Impression - How effective is the front cover: It is very eye catching due to the colour scheme used, the colours contrast which makes them stand out and the theme runs through to the image. Also the pose struck by the artist challenges her conventions therefore fans will want to look inside to see what she is doing and why she is changing her image, hoping to see more. It addresses cheryl cole fans but also to people who maybe didn't like her before because of her new image. changing from innocent to edgy, rocky, sexy.
